Vinarija Burnum (Winery)

Burnum Winery is located on the PZ Vrbničko selo estate above the village of Vrbnik, seven kilometers from Knin, in the Knin wine-growing region. It was founded by Nikola Damjanić. The estate covers about six hectares on a rocky, sun-drenched plateau beneath the Dinara mountains. They launched their organic farming practices with the support of winemakers from Goriška Brda in Slovenia, who brought their experience in implementing organic methods under challenging conditions.

Thirty thousand vines are grown exclusively using organic methods. All wines carry the EU organic certificate. The range of varieties is broad: from indigenous Pošip, Babić, and Maraština to international Chardonnay, Viognier, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Marselan, and Carménère. Their specialty lies in cuvées that combine these two groups of varieties rather than keeping them separate.

Burnum was among the first in Croatia to produce a sparkling wine from the Babić variety. They started experimentally, and today the sparkling wine is in constant demand. The winery's name and the visual design of the label share the same origin: Burnum was a Roman military camp established by the Romans at the beginning of our era, the remains of which—in the form of two arches—stand at the entrance to nearby Ivoševci. Those two arches are reproduced on the label.
