Kalelarga and Masna ulica (Street)

Two famous streets in the old town of Šibenik, part of the daily flow through the historic city center.

King Tomislav Street, known as Kalelarga, was once the city's main shopping destination, filled with numerous stores and artisan workshops. In the afternoons and evenings, it transformed into a popular promenade.

Today, Kalelarga continues to attract visitors with its traditional crafts, Šibenik souvenirs, and stone facades, leading at its end to the Cathedral of St. James, a UNESCO World Heritage site.

To the right of the intersection lies Zagrebačka Street, which the locals call Masna (Greasy Street). It was once famous for its inns, taverns, and eateries serving simple, traditional food. Workers, townspeople, and even the gentry would come here for their mid-morning meals, and it earned its nickname from the richness and aromas wafting from its many kitchens.

Masna remains a lively street today, a favorite among locals for coffee, while the surrounding alleys are home to spots serving traditional dishes.
