The Juraj Šižgorić City Library is housed in a building constructed in 1962 based on the design of architect Ivan Vitić, one of the most important figures in Croatian modern architecture. The building originally served as the JNA Hall and was built on the site of the former People's Café and Slavic Reading Room, which were destroyed during World War II. Today, the building is considered a successful example of integrating modern architecture into the historic city center of Šibenik.
The distinctive glass facade, which reveals the bookshelves inside, is particularly striking in the evening when the library becomes one of the visual landmarks of Poljana. In addition to its rich collection of books and audiovisual materials, the library serves as an active cultural center for the city, hosting book launches, exhibitions, lectures, and various events for children and adults.
Named after the Šibenik humanist Juraj Šižgorić, the library continues the city's long tradition of education and cultural life, remaining one of the most important venues for contemporary public life in Šibenik.
