The St. Anthony’s Channel Promenade is a 4.4 km coastal trail connecting Paninkovac Bay to the islet of Školjić, located in front of St. Nicholas’ Fortress. A one-way walk takes about two hours.

This promenade is loved by everyone: from the locals of Šibenik, for whom a large part of the eastern side of St. Anthony’s Channel was inaccessible for decades due to military presence, to all other visitors. You will encounter nature lovers, walkers, cyclists, recreational fishermen, swimmers, and families with children and pets, all drawn by its unobtrusive design that blends into nature, its spectacular views, and its numerous amenities.

The promenade itself stretches 4.5 kilometers from Paninkovac Bay in the Šibenik Channel to the islet of Školjić in front of St. Nicholas’ Fortress. It can be reached by car, on foot, or by bicycle from Paninkovac Bay or via the road toward Zablaće from Škar Bay. To walk the entire length of the promenade in one direction, you will need about two hours, during which you can visit the many attractions of St. Anthony’s Channel; you won't get lost, as it is well-marked with tourist signage. Because of the beautiful panoramic view of Šibenik from the viewpoint at the highest point of the promenade, as well as from a slightly lower rest area, the promenade is attractive at any time of the year, day, or night, as solar lamps and light markers have been installed for nighttime orientation. In addition to the views of Šibenik, from several points along the promenade, you can enjoy equally exciting views of the Šibenik archipelago, as well as the Renaissance beauty on the UNESCO World Heritage List – St. Nicholas’ Fortress, which is located at the very exit of the Channel.

St. Anthony’s Channel

Respecting the configuration of this protected karst landscape, the promenade descends from steep cliffs toward gentle bays where swimming is possible on the beaches. About halfway along the path, there is a small boat pier from which you can access two curiosities of this Channel – a natural cave that hides the small church of St. Anthony the Hermit, and sea tunnels dug by the Nazis during World War II, colloquially known as "Hitler’s Eyes."

Rest area on the promenade

For those eager for knowledge, there is the St. Anthony’s Channel Visitor Center – a kind of interactive window into the world of the Šibenik seabed. Located at a well-known film location – a former JNA barracks – you can now learn about biodiversity and take a break in the educational and rest zones. You will also find a place for refreshments – a café with a children's playground – and nearby is a section of the path adapted for the blind and visually impaired.

Although the final point of the promenade – St. Nicholas’ Fortress – can currently only be reached by sea, i.e., by boat, the walkway over the wooden bridge leading to the islet of Školjić, which is connected to the fortress by an embankment, is very attractive. Access to the fortress from that side is currently disabled, but in the near future, through restoration projects, there are plans to connect Školjić and the fortress, making it possible to reach it from the land side as well.
