The Juraj Šižgorić City Library is named after the Renaissance humanist and Šibenik poet who lived in the 15th and 16th centuries. It is housed in a building designed by architect Ivan Vitić. Vitić's building is one of the most recognizable modernist landmarks in the center of Šibenik and is well worth a visit in its own right.

The library has evolved beyond being just a book repository. Since moving into its new building, it has developed a multimedia hall, a gallery area, an audiovisual department, and a cultural events program that has enlivened the Poljana square for years. It is precisely this cultural function that makes it interesting even for visitors who aren't just looking for a reading room.

Tourists can sign up and use the library—a fact most passersby are unaware of.
Important note: The building on Poljana is currently undergoing energy-efficiency renovations. Departments are operating from temporary locations. If you are planning a visit, please check the current addresses and opening hours on the library's website beforehand.
