Tisno was established where the island of Murter almost touches the mainland, and it is named after this narrow, six-meter-wide strait

The center of the old part of the town is located on the island, while the newer part was built on the mainland. Tisno was first mentioned in 1474, and during French rule in the early 19th century, it developed into the largest island settlement and the center of the commune. The bridge connecting the island to the mainland was built in the early 18th century, which is when Tisno began to expand onto the mainland.

Tisno

Unlike other small Dalmatian towns, Tisno has unusually spacious squares, a long waterfront ideal for pleasant evening strolls, and is rich in greenery. The most famous beach in Tisno is the pebble beach Jazine, while behind the small church of St. Andrew lies a rocky beach shaded by a dense forest with a long and pleasant promenade. In addition to private and hotel accommodation for guests, the Jazine campsite is located about a kilometer from the town. During the summer season, Tisno hosts festivals and other entertainment and cultural events.
