Zagora is the inland region stretching between the Dinara mountain range and the city of Šibenik. Eight rivers flow through this area, including three of Croatia's most beautiful: the Krka, the Cetina, and the Zrmanja.
These rivers feature nine waterfalls, including Skradinski buk, one of the most beautiful in Croatia, and Manojlovac, the highest. Surrounding them are 20 lakes, such as Lake Vrana, the largest in Croatia, and Glavaš, the deepest in Europe—explored to a depth of 120 meters, though its bottom has yet to be reached.
The region is graced by five mountains and 17 medieval fortresses, including the Knin Fortress, the largest of its kind in Croatia.
Here you will find the remains of grand ancient cities and fortifications, the world-renowned prehistoric archaeological sites of Danilo and Pokrovnik, the most important archaeological sites in Croatian national history, valuable early Christian sites, and the only fully preserved Roman military amphitheater.
The Šibenik hinterland was the stage for turbulent historical events that have left visible traces to this day in folk customs, folklore, dialect, the character of its people, and authentic dishes where Mediterranean and Oriental flavors and aromas blend with continental European culinary traditions.
