Šibenik for believers and pilgrims

It is no surprise that the interpretation center of the Cathedral of St. James, a Šibenik gem inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List, was named Civitas Sacra – The Holy City.

This phrase best illustrates the connection of the community of the medieval Šibenik commune, which, through its faith and dedication to the goal, gave birth to the magnificent cathedral we have inherited from them. This same community built over twenty sacral buildings that today bear witness to the spiritual life of the people of Šibenik, regardless of whether they are still in service or have been repurposed. A visit to the Cathedral of St. James is an essential part of every visitor's city tour, and a particularly spiritual experience for believers and pilgrims. To better understand the construction techniques, as well as the history and life of the spiritual community, visit the Civitas Sacra center, and admire the Šibenik churches during a spontaneous or organized walk through the city.

The Church of St. Francis is dedicated as The Croatian National Shrine of St. Nicholas Tavelić, a native of Šibenik and the first Croatian saint. Within the St. Francis monastery, there is a museum worth visiting because, among the sacral treasures in a space that also presents everything preserved by the monastery library, Tavelić's leather sandals are kept.

Camino

The Church of the Holy Spirit is dedicated as a chapel of Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration and is open to all believers 24 hours a day, 7 days a week – for prayer, but not for tourist visits.

Šibenik is also part of the pilgrimage route Camino Croatia. The route called Camino Šibenik is 108 kilometers long, starts in Marina, ends in Pirovac, and exactly halfway through, the route reaches its spiritual peak in Šibenik at the Cathedral of St. James, the saint to whom the entire Camino is dedicated.

For Orthodox believers, there are two churches: the Church of the Dormition of the Theotokos in the historic center, which is also the cathedral church of the Diocese of Dalmatia, and the Church of the Holy Savior at the Orthodox cemetery in the Varoš district.
