The Krnići Gornji viewpoint is most easily reached by turning off the road from Šibenik toward Pakovo Selo. This well-maintained rest area offers a clear view of the point where the Čikola River, after flowing through its fourteen-kilometer-long canyon, joins the Krka River. Due to the rise of the Skradinski buk travertine barrier, the Krka riverbed was flooded for thirteen kilometers, submerging three kilometers of the Čikola’s mouth and creating this unusual river confluence.
The central part of this panorama is occupied by Kalički busen, a travertine barrier about seven hundred meters long and only ten meters wide. It serves as a natural boundary separating the Krka flow from the mouth of the Čikola. Excursion boats carrying visitors to the island of Visovac regularly sail around this barrier, taking advantage of the calm, lake-like flow of the river.
The hamlet of Krnići Gornji also offers additional amenities in the form of rural households, where visitors can get acquainted with the local gastronomy and traditions of the Dalmatian hinterland. The viewpoint is an ideal place for a short break, allowing you to observe the interweaving of the two rivers and understand the natural processes that have shaped this part of the National Park. The peaceful surroundings and open views make it a must-visit spot for anyone exploring the upper and middle reaches of the Krka.
