The Čikola River canyon, protected since 1965, is a prominent geographical feature of this area. The road to the Miljevci plateau runs alongside the canyon's high cliffs. The roadside rest area serves as a vantage point for this 14-kilometer-long river valley, which reaches depths of up to 170 meters in some places. The canyon was shaped by the action of water over time.
From this spot, you can see the rocky sections of the riverbed and the maquis vegetation on the canyon slopes. During dry periods, when the river flow is low, the rounded stones in the riverbed are visible. The canyon area is home to various bird species, including those that inhabit aquatic environments.

The Čikola canyon also contains archaeological sites. Due to its configuration, the area provided natural protection in the past, leading to the discovery of caves with Paleolithic findings. Nearby is the Ključica fortress, a medieval stronghold within the Krka National Park area. This combination of natural and historical elements defines the location.
Stopping at the Čikola lookout allows you to take in the canyon before continuing your journey toward Roški Slap or Visovac.
