Why visit
Zlarin summers are traditionally dedicated to the arts, offering events that appeal to audiences of all generations.
It is said that the history of coral diving in the Adriatic is, in fact, the history of Zlarin's coral diving. Indeed, Zlarin's tradition of harvesting coral dates all the way back to the 14th century.

Over time, the people of Zlarin learned how to process raw coral, so today it is unthinkable to visit the island of coral without taking home at least a small piece of coral jewelry as a souvenir. You can see coral on Zlarin at the Croatian Coral Centre, in local coral shops, and on the Zlarin women who wear it with pride, though harvesting it from the depths of the sea required venturing far from the island. In the aforementioned Centre, under the slogan "Red like you've never seen before," the daily life of these brave coral hunters is depicted, and coral is presented in an interactive way as a living creature—which, believe it or not, is classified as an animal.

Zlarin has always been a favorite summer destination for the people of Šibenik. In the 15th century, the famous Šibenik humanist Juraj Šižgorić, inspired by the beauty of Zlarin, coined the phrase "Golden Island." With about 2,700 hours of sunshine per year, it is truly golden, but the color that dominates it today is green, as it is entirely covered in lush Mediterranean vegetation. In addition to swimming at Zlarin's beaches, the island is ideal for walking, trekking, cycling, and kayaking. Once you climb to the highest peak of the island, Klepac, you are rewarded with a view of the entire archipelago. Although it is considered a car-free island in the traditional sense, locals get around in small electric vehicles. The environmental awareness of the Zlarin community is evidenced by the fact that Zlarin was the first plastic-free island in Croatia.

Zlarin Island

Zlarin is the birthplace of Croatia's greatest poetess, Vesna Parun, who dedicated numerous poems to her native island. Zlarin summers are traditionally dedicated to the arts, offering events that appeal to audiences of all generations. The island also boasts the longest island waterfront in Croatia, measuring an impressive 131 meters.

Jadrolinija passenger ships depart from Šibenik to Zlarin several times a day. Whether you are coming for a day trip or planning a longer stay, use the same ferry line to include the neighboring island of Prvić in your itinerary to complete your experience of the Šibenik archipelago. It is also possible to reach the island from the mainland by taxi boat.
