A road connects the two villages, taking just about 15 minutes of easy walking through the island landscape. The entire island is protected as a cultural and historical site, inscribed on the List of Protected Cultural Goods of the Republic of Croatia due to its exceptionally well-preserved traditional architecture. A century ago, it was the most densely populated island in the Adriatic, home to over 3,000 residents, while today there are barely 300.

Since the Middle Ages, Prvić has been a favorite summer retreat for the Šibenik nobility, and the family of the great Faust Vrančić bought a summer house here—a Renaissance building in the shade of pine trees that still belongs to the descendants of the noble Vrančić family. Faust grew to love the island in his childhood, which is why he chose it as his final resting place. After he died in Venice, his wish was fulfilled, and his body was buried in the Church of Our Lady of Mercy in Prvić Luka. Right next to the church is the "Faust Vrančić" Memorial Center, dedicated to interpreting the life, work, and legacy of this Croatian great who, among other things, gave us the first dictionary of the Croatian language and more than 50 different practical inventions. He is best known for his design of the first functional parachute, the so-called "Flying Man," a life-sized model of which you can see on the Center's terrace. For this reason, Prvić is often called Faust's Island or the Island of the Flying Man.

Prvić is also affectionately called the car-free island—the first thing you notice when you step off the boat is the complete absence of the traffic noise you are used to on the mainland. As for the soundscape, cicadas rule by day and crickets by night. Prvić offers numerous opportunities for a peaceful vacation in nature: small coves with natural, rocky shores and pebble beaches are sheltered from the wind and provide an intimate swimming experience, ideal for those looking for a break from the fast pace of life. Prvić is also the perfect place for a family vacation—you can let your children run barefoot around the island, carefree, between swimming at one of the sandy-pebble beaches and enjoying the always-fresh selection of island specialties.

Jadrolinija passenger ships depart from Šibenik for Prvić several times a day. Whether you are coming for a day trip or planning a longer stay on Prvić, you can use the same ferry line to visit neighboring Zlarin and get the best of these two pearls of the Šibenik archipelago. It is also possible to reach the island from the mainland by taxi boat.
